Our 16 year old daughter is dragon mad.....she loves everything to do with dragons. So for her 16th birthday, I wanted to do something special for her.
Originally I wanted to do a Dragon album up for her - then I changed my mind and thought why not created a Book Box with a dragon eye on the front of it.
I watched heaps of you tube videos to try and work out how to create the eye part, as I've never done anything like this before.
I found some scrapbook paper that had a dinosaur eye on it from Uniquely Creative - the paper is called Roar, that I thought I could maybe use. Not sure if it's still available now though.
I then purchased some oval glass cabochons and some grey Sculpey Oven Bake Clay from Spotlight.
Then I created the dragon eye - had absolutely no idea what I was doing. This is the eye - not painted.
I thought it looked like a dragon eye. It's not the best, but I'm happy with it.
I purchased a book box from Bunnings. I then covered it with tissue paper to give the effect of the dragon skin.
Then glued the dragon eye to the from of the box. Then I painted it in black gesso. I highlighted certain parts with gold and blue wax.
I used stickers for the corners - not totally happy with that part - but time was running out and I needed to finish it.
Below are photos of the finished project. Overall, I'm impressed with how it turned out. Our daughter loved it.
